In a luxurious beach house, yards from the Pacific surf, a small group of men will spend between 30 and 90 days together. They will kayak in the sea, go surfing; even learn Kung Fu, and at day's end they'll sit together over a meal prepared by their in-house private chef.
While these men may look and even act like friends on a dream vacation, between sessions of fun they actually work with some of the world's best addiction professionals, striving to walk away forever from lives tainted by drugs or alcohol.
And although beach volleyball may not look like addiction treatment, after a tough therapeutic hour, a little exercise and sober fun is just what the doctor ordered.
A branch of Sober Living by the Sea, one of America's most respected treatment organizations, The Landing builds on over 20 years of addiction treatment excellence to offer men a primary care treatment program that works.
The Landing Features:
- An incredible 2:1 staff to client ratio, allowing for truly individualized treatment and closely monitored care.
- Luxurious beachfront accommodation, steps from the ocean, in a newly designed and very comfortable home.
- Completely confidential care - The secluded location ensures privacy.
- An intense therapeutic schedule, with frequent one-on-one and group therapy, lectures, EMDR, hypnotherapy and others.
- A treatment curriculum focused on outdoor activities that build self esteem and sober life enjoyment. Activities range from golf to massage to an adventure ropes challenge course. An array of choices so wide, few residents ever manage to do everything offered (because treatment is so individualized, outdoor activities are tailored to each client's likes and abilities).
- An in-house private chef whose nutritious meals are legendary.
- In-house doctors able to prescribe Suboxone and staff trained to administer medications.
- Staff certified to treat dually diagnosed clients.
- Medical detoxification and continuing care services.
- A maximum of 6 men in residence at any one time.
The Advantages of Men's Only Treatment
Men and women walk different paths into addiction. Men more often struggle with anger management and defiance and may feel that male ideals of stoicism and toughness preclude addiction treatments that involve opening up in front of a group.
Men tend to feel more comfortable revealing themselves emotionally in single gender groups, feeling able to discuss topics that with women present might be awkward. All staff members are male, all are in recovery and all lead by example, inspiring a real belief in change.
Detox
Detox provided for:
- Alcohol
- Crystal meth
- Methadone
- Heroin
- Cocaine
- Opioid medications
- Polysubstance use
The Landing offers a full spectrum of care, from detox to aftercare. Our doctors can help you detox safely and comfortably using Suboxone® or other medications. We are especially skilled in helping men detox from prescription drugs. Detox can take anywhere from one day to two weeks. You won’t need to be hospitalized, and you can start participating in classes and therapy while you are in the process.
Medications that ease withdrawal symptoms and 24 hour medical care ensure a safe and humane withdrawal, which depending on the substance used and other factors, can last from 1 to 14 days. Men in detox make the most of their time with 12 steps study, classes and participation and initial addiction therapies.
The Landing's doctors will prescribe Suboxone as needed and have great expertise in assisting in the detoxification off prescription opiates.
Therapeutic Programming
Clinical activities include:
- Individual therapy
- 5 Group therapy counseling sessions per week
- 1 session of trauma therapy per week – more if needed
- 12 steps support meetings
- Psychiatric and psychological testing lectures
- Relapse prevention classes
- EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)
- Continuing care and relapse prevention planning
Suboxone and Vivitrol
When incorporated with addiction treatment therapies, Suboxone works very well and greatly eliminates painful opiate withdrawal symptoms as well as drug cravings. Vivitrol is a naltrexone-based medication that helps recovering alcoholics avoid relapse. Medication alone is never a complete solution but doctors at The Landing recognize the benefits of certain medications and do prescribe them as necessary.
Physical Activities
Although recovering men enjoy the frequent interludes of physical activity, staff does not schedule daily activities solely for fun. Physical and outdoor activities improve health and fitness, build self esteem, teach sober fun and cement sober friendships.
Activities available at The Landing include:
- Beach volleyball
- Swimming
- Kayaking
- Massage
- Gym trips (daily)
- Golf
- Hiking
- Tai Chi
- An adventure ropes course
- Kung-Fu
- Surfing
- Many more
The Family Program
Drug or alcohol abuse, whether loud and disruptive or hidden and excused, takes a dramatic toll on the health of the family and its members; and just as an addicted man needs healing, that man's family deserves rebuilding.
Family members will come for 3 days of shared therapy and education with their in-recovery son, brother or father and will learn what they can do to support that man once back at home.
Family therapy acknowledges the hurts of the past, teaches techniques of restoration and looks to a better future.
For 3 days, family stays together, learns together and heals together - and it's always a lot of fun too, with a whole lot more laughter and joy than tears.
Community 12-Step Participation
Newport Beach is a special place, very supportive of the recovery community and boasting over 200 12-Step and other addiction recovery groups. Men at The Landing join community 12-Step groups rather than attending in-house, learning while still in treatment where and how to get sober support afterwards.
Celebrate Recovery
Without spiritual growth, recovery struggles to take hold. Men who choose to do so may participate in a special Christ-centered recovery approach, and in addition to a full participation in regular clinical programming, will also:
- Receive individual Christian counseling
- Attend local church services
- Study and practice the Christian 12-steps and the 8 Christian recovery principles
- Study recovery related Bible passages
Additional Services:
- A country-wide network of referrals, over 20 years in the making, ensuring that you get continuing care services, wherever you go
- A year long closely monitored continuing care program after graduation
- Access to T.E.A.C.H. a college assistance program for those newly in recovery that offers transportation, tutoring and other services
- Alumni services that include weekly newsletters, emails and occasional reunions
Take the First Step
The Landing helps men change for the better. It's a place where men get treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, where mentoring leaders demonstrate a better way of life and where men learn that sobriety can be a whole lot of fun.
