Safe and Comfortable Medically Assisted Detox
The process of recovery truly begins when the person in need agrees to receive treatment to overcome their misuse of alcohol or drugs.
Men who come to The Landing for drug rehabilitation can expect to receive kind, supportive, humane, and caring treatment from our staff of trained professionals. Once the man arrives here, he may need to undergo a medically assisted detoxification process to safely free his body from the chemical dependency so that he can effectively participate in the recovery education he will receive for the next 30 to 90 days of residential addiction treatment.
Our staff has been overseeing drug and alcohol detoxification for more than 25 years and is dedicated to giving men the best chance at achieving long-term recovery. For this reason, we are experienced in the planning of a detoxification regimen that gives the man as much comfort as possible, thus ensuring that he has a good chance to maintain long-term sobriety. Withdrawal symptoms vary for different addictive substances, and our treatment network has facilities that are California state licensed to provide a safe and effective environment for:
- alcohol detox
- opiate/opioid/prescription medication detox (i.e., vicodin, OxyContin, percocet)
- amphetamine (meth or speed) detox
- methadone detox
- cocaine and crack cocaine detox
- heroin detox
- polysubstance detox
The detox plan may include the prescribing of Suboxone or Vivitrol by our psychiatrist (our registered nurse will oversee the administration of this medication).

Highly Successful Addiction Treatment
The detox process generally lasts between one and 14 days depending on the drug of choice and history of use. The men at The Landing use this time to begin their recovery education by participating in 12-Step meetings that build self-esteem and confidence that they can recover. During detoxification, our staff assists in managing the withdrawal symptoms. We take pride in building momentum early in recovery so that by the time the men have completed detoxifying, they have started their treatment program and:
- can identify triggers, dangerous situations, and emotions that cause them to crave their drug of choice.
- can discuss underlying issues that contribute to their addiction.
- can describe their goals in recovery.
- have made connections in the 12-Step support groups that are a critical component of the recovery process.
As soon as the man starts to “come out of the fog” through detoxification, he will begin his intensive treatment regimen which includes a variety of therapy modalities, educational workshops, and a very busy slate of fun, esteem-building, and spiritually rewarding rehab activities. If necessary, the man will continue taking medication such as Subutex (Buprenorphine) or Vivitrol (Naltrexone) to reduce relapse cravings.
Medications like Suboxone and Vivitrol have been proven to increase the likelihood of successful long-term recovery (when the man is actively invested in the other components of the treatment program).
