At The Landing, we provide comprehensive treatment in a luxurious environment for men who are struggling with substance abuse and certain co-occurring mental health disorders. Our three-phase treatment model, which includes residential care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP), is designed to give each man the best possible chance to live a life free from the influence of substances. Treatment begins with detox and residential care.
For many men receiving substance abuse treatment, the first step is often ridding their bodies of substances of abuse by going through the withdrawal process. During detoxification, or detox, each man has the opportunity to withdraw safely from substances of abuse while being looked after by our caring, experienced, and attentive medical team. Our staff members monitor each man’s progress through withdrawal to help manage symptoms.
After detox is complete, a client can then move into residential treatment. At The Landing, residential care is a comprehensive, multifaceted process that includes multiple interventions. Twice-weekly individual therapy, provided by marriage and family therapy interns, gives clients a chance to be supported and discuss issues that they may not be comfortable discussing in groups. In addition, each client meets with a certified substance abuse counselor at least once per week.
Groups are in many ways the backbone of treatment at The Landing. Each man participates in multiple groups per day, including process groups, psychoeducational groups, and experiential groups such as art therapy and yoga. Other experiential therapies can include gym time, massage, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and music therapy. Recognizing the important role that family plays in many of our clients’ lives, we also offer family therapy sessions, led by marriage and family therapy interns, based on each client’s needs.
Men who come to The Landing with co-occurring mental health disorders in addition to their primary substance use disorders can benefit from medication management services provided by our psychiatrist and nursing staff. Each client will have an initial meeting with the psychiatrist within 72 hours of admission and will have follow-up appointments as needed.
Once a man completes the residential phase of treatment, he then moves seamlessly into our PHP and IOP programs.
Struggling with substance abuse and a co-occurring mental health disorder can be a painful and difficult experience, but no man needs to struggle alone. If you or someone you love might benefit from the top-notch luxury care provided at The Landing, do not hesitate to give us a call. Today may be the first day of your journey towards freedom from substance abuse.
Gender Specific Program
The Landing was created by the addiction experts at our parent facility, Sober Living by the Sea. Sober Living by the Sea has been treating both men and women who suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction right on the beach in Orange County, California since 1986.
The Landing was created to provide an exclusive, private, and structured drug rehab right on the beach for alcoholic or chemically dependent men to get the best possible chance at achieving long-term recovery.
Giving Men the Best Chance at Successful Recovery
Most people who have researched recovery programs are aware that there is a strong positive correlation between time spent in a treatment program and achieving long-term sobriety. Another statistic that the addiction industry has documented is the positive relationship between attending a gender-specific primary care program and the likelihood of long-term abstinence.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse and Addiction, men and women with substance abuse problems require different prevention and treatment approaches.
Highly Structured, Highly Monitored, Highly Effective
At The Landing of Newport Beach, our addiction treatment experts have created a highly structured and supervised environment in a welcoming and comfortable home right on the beach. The men who participate in The Landing’s addiction treatment program will find themselves in a friendly and enjoyable vacation-like environment while receiving state-of-the-art addiction treatment on a constant basis.
Recovering in a men’s-only program provides recovering alcoholics or addicts the benefit of working together and forging caring bonds of accountability and support with other recovering men. Clients can focus on their recovery for 30, 60, or 90 days and build an excellent foundation that will help them overcome the urge to relapse when they graduate to less supervised care in our outpatient program.
Men Experience Addiction and Alcoholism Differently
Research suggests that men and women experience drug and alcohol addiction differently. Not only do they have different biological responses and co-morbid factors, but they also have separate reasons for turning to drugs and alcohol in the first place.
Men are often struggling with anger management or defiance, whereas women often bring trauma or social issues to their recovery process. Separating men and women during the initial stage of primary addiction treatment helps the different genders deal with their issues head-on, without any distractions or uneasiness.
Gender-specific treatment process groups also help clients discuss highly sensitive and personal issues that are unique to their gender. Men benefit from being able to form a cohesive social network with other recovering males. In men-only groups, men can concentrate on their recovery process without worrying about social approval and the impression they may be making on others. They feel safe to discuss topics and memories that are uncomfortable to disclose in a co-ed group.
Given a variety of social factors in addition to these biological and social differences, men and women often fare best in gender-specific recovery programs.
